How do you count calories without weighing your food?
Use hand measures and known portion sizes, and be exact where exactness is cheap: number of eggs, one bottle, one bar. A reasonable estimate you keep up beats a precise one you abandon.
- Count what is countable: three potatoes, four meatballs, one bar.
- A palm of protein, a fist of carbohydrate, a thumb of fat — good enough for most meals.
- Named products have known values; there is no need to estimate them.
- Do not log the same food twice — either the ingredients or the finished plate.
- Weigh a few standard portions once, then estimate from memory.
How it works
You say the meal out loud. Exact quantities you state are always used as given, hand measures only as a fallback, and nothing is added that you did not say. The daily total is checked for plausibility before it is shown.
